Imitation is Key to Finding Voice

  1. I posted this because I suddenly had the voice of Sherwood Anderson spilling out of me in a complete short story. It was not me, it was not my voice, and if I stuck George Willard into the narrative, it would be called part of his collective work. And I wondered why I wrote it... and why when I finished it, I found that it had no soul. It's good imitation, but that's all it is.
